There are a number of outrageous elements in these Jewish groups who put the heart of their 'moral effort' in aiding Arabs in Israel.
First, it is a shift in responsibility away from dealing with their own real problems. The problems of assimilation and indifference to Jewish concerns are what these groups should be contending with.
Second, they are choosing a relatively well-off and prosperous group. If they wish to aid the poor of the world, or the democratically deprived they have millions of others to choose from.
Thirdly, they are indicting and undermining the one really strong center of Jewish life in the world, the state of Israel.
Fourth, they are joining a bandwagon. They are not necessary. There is a whole world of groups lined up who are already bashing Israel.
Fifthly, as this article indicates the situation of Israeli Arabs is by no means simple. They bear responsibility for 'something' of what is unsatisfactory in their lives. What about their running away from municipal taxes? their disproportionate involvement in crime? Their failure to respond to any responsible offers to serve the State they live in?
