Is this genocide?

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Just Google ‘Israel Genocide’ and you will find literally thousands of references to the Israeli ‘genocide’ against the Palestinians. But here’s an example of the reality:

IDF soldiers seriously wounded the wife of a wanted Palestinian on Thursday during a raid on his home in a Nablus refugee camp.

The woman was struck by the front door as the soldiers, members of the elite Duvdevan unit, burst through it.

She was evacuated to an Israeli hospital by an IDF helicopter.

The army said Nasr Jawabra, the Palestinian suspect, was a senior al-Quds Brigades [part of the Islamic Jihad organization] commander who in the past was involved in terror attacks and suicide bombings against Israel. — YNet

Islamic Jihad took ‘credit’ for the suicide bombing in Eilat on Monday in which three people were killed.

A helicopter evacuation is expensive and dangerous. Is this the action of a genocidal army? What would the Turks have done in 1915? What would Hitler have done? A Rwandan Hutu?

Indeed, what did the Islamic Jihad do?

Bloody idiots get it exactly backwards again

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

A committee of British MPs has criticised the decision by the international community to boycott Hamas after it won elections last year. The Commons International Development Committee said the boycott could set back the Middle East peace process and lead to more violence. — BBC

The Western powers have demanded that they will only support Hamas financially when they agree to renounce violence, recognize Israel, and accept existing agreements between the Palestinian Authority and Israel.

This is unreasonable? Should the US and Europe pay the salaries of Hamas militias and buy them weapons when they insist that they have a right to throw out the peace process (such as it is) and go back to trying to destroy Israel?

Who is “setting back the peace process” here?

What if the US Government sent money to the Irish Republican Army to buy explosives with?

Palestinians are like street gangs

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

The latest truce between Hamas and Fatah has fallen apart, with 6 Palestinians killed in Gaza on Thursday and dozens wounded. I spoke to a source in the Israeli security services and asked him about it. For obvious reasons I’m not giving his name:

FresnoZionism: Abbas and Haniyeh have both called for quiet. The fighting is certainly not helping either side, not to mention the civilians caught in the middle. Why are they fighting?

Source: These groups aren’t organized, not even militias. They’re hamoulas, groups of relatives and friends. And they’re fighting for control of neighborhoods, for graft, for revenge. They’re like street gangs.

FZ: The US is supporting Fatah with weapons and money. Can they defeat Hamas and assert their control?

S: I doubt it. The United States has never learned that you don’t win by supporting unpopular warlords. The Palestinians see them as mercenaries working for the Americans.

FZ: Do they see Hamas as less corrupt?

S: Anybody that isn’t aligned with either side hates and is afraid of both of them. Both sides are corrupt — Fatah just has more money.

FZ: Is the fighting hurting Israeli peace efforts?

S: Neither side wants peace with us — they both have the same goal, to destroy Israel, although they are following different strategies. As far as I’m concerned, I’m happy they’re busy. The more they shoot at each other, the less they shoot at us.
